Introduction
In the beginning, the institution employed the services of a Computer Maintenance Company to repair/service her faulty computer systems and accessories which were confined in a section of the Registry called Management Information System (MIS) unit. Not until 2004 when the maintenance was fully handed over to MIS unit that the skeletal form of service was properly defined and responsibilities outlined.
In 2006, the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Directorate was established under the administration of late Professor Francis O. Otunta. From the first day of its inception, the Centre has not lacked any form of support from Management.

The ICT Directorate incorporates emerging technologies in which the creation, storage and movement of information is of critical importance and is a key resource for developing and securing appropriately-skilled Information and Communications Technology (ICT) technicians and technologists.

In pursuance of our vision, the ICT Directorate is promoting the increased use of functional state-of-the-art resources for Teaching and Learning, Research, Training, Examinations and Consultancy Services for students, staff and the society at large.

Major ICT Directorate Goals include:
v Dissemination of innovative, effective, and current information and communications technologies (ICT) curricula.
v Making the knowledge of subject-matter experts readily accessible to industry and academia

technologies in education.
v To be an instrument for transforming the Polytechnic to a world-class standard through the provision of ICT facilities , tools and knowledge.

ICT Directorate is in charge of the college portals with different Internet Service Providers (ISP) which are:

1. Tenece; This provider hosts Post-UTM|E admission using the site https://www.polyunwana.net and https://www.polyunwana.edu.ng.
2. K-Compass: They host the e-registration site https://akanuibiamfedpoly.net

ü Administratively, the networked database facilitates production of the following Data Processing Templates:
ü Summary of all categories of admission at time T for Management
ü Registration number order and names of students on the Matric list (on departmental basis) for Admissions Office and affected Academic Departments:
ü School Fee Payment Schedule (on department basic) for Student Accounts and Internal Audit Units.
ü Number of Students in the Polytechnic at time T as requested, on ad-hoc basis , by Management to meet internal/external needs.

The Directorate was charged with additional responsibility of certifying that computers supplied to the Polytechnic are reliable and in good condition with high quality service delivery. All these duties were effectively discharged by the Directorate until April 2009, when a Committee on Maintenance and Repair was set up to ease the workload of the few ICT Staff. The Committee lasted for a year and some months. Thereafter, maintenance was reverted to ICT Directorate when the Acting Director was appointed in 2010..
