ONYEMACHIThe Rector, Ven. Dr. Ogbonnia Ibe-Enwo has appointed Dean, School of Industrial Technology, Mr. Samuel Ejikeme Onyemachi as Deputy Rector (Academic) with effect from Monday, July 6, 2015. The appointment which is renewable after the initial term of two years was ratified by the Chairman of Council on behalf of the 7th Governing Council.

As the Deputy Rector (Academic), Mr. Onyemachi will assist the Rector in matters relating to academic affairs; act in place of the Rector when the post of the Rector is vacant or if the Rector is for any reason absent from or unable to perform his functions as Rector. He will also perform such other functions as the Rector or Council may from time to time assign to him.

Mr. Onyemachi was born on March 30, 1956 and hails from Avodim, Ubakala, Umuahia South, Abia State. He attended Sancta Crux Secondary School Olokoro, Umuahia and is an alumnus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he obtained a degree in Chemistry/Microbiology (1978); and Obafemi Awolowo University from whose shelf of honours he plucked a Master of Science in Food Technology (1989). Also, he holds a certificate in Sugar Processing Technology (Zambia, 1980) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Food Science and Technology (1987).

Before joining the services of the Polytechnic in 2013, Mr. Onyemachi worked with Federal Polytechnic, Mubi (1983-2013); Savannah Sugar Company, Numan (1979-1983); and General Hospital Kaltungo (NYSC, 1978-1979). While in Federal Polytechnic Mubi, he functioned in a host of administrative capacities which include: Departmental Examination Officer (1985-1994); Head, Department of Food Science Technology (2005-2007); Dean, School of Science and Technology (2005-2007); Project Manager World Bank Step B Project (2006-2011); Deputy Director, Academic Planning (2008-2009); Director, Centre for Technology Entrepreneurship and Community Empowerment (2009); Deputy Rector (Academic) (2009-2011), the apex being as Acting Rector (2011-2012). He has doubled as Dean, School of Industrial Technology and Head, Department of Food Technology (2013-2014) since joining Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic in 2013.

As a professional food technologist, Mr. Onyemachi is a member of Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (MNIFST), Technology Writers Association of Nigeria (MTEWAN) and Nigeria National Committee of the West African Examination Council (WAEC). He has served as a Food Technology Consultant to Beulah Company Limited, Yola (1995), Yuteco Foods Nigeria Limited, Gboko (1995), Savannah Sugar Company, Numan (1993), and Jomma Engineering Services, Yola (To Date).

As an academic, he was Visiting Lecturer  South Bank Polytechnic, London, U.K (1990); Editor-in Chief, Journal of Applied Science and Management (1996-2006); External Examiner, Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi (2005-2006); External  Assessor for Appointment of Chief  Lecturers, Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi (2001-Date); and Assessor for National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) Journal (2000-Date). He has served as Chairman of six different committees (all in Federal Polytechnic, Mubi) from 1995 – 2011, winning Gold Award for Outstanding Leadership from National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and Distinguished Fellowship Award from Institute of Professional Manager and Administrators (IPMA) in recognition of his outstanding services.

Mr. Onyemachi has written many conference papers and journal articles both at the domestic and foreign fronts. He also has a book and two different fabrications to his credit. He is married with two (2) children.
